Physiology

Physiology deals with the mechanisms that play a role in normal body functioning. It requires the application of mathematics, physics, and chemistry to the study of structure and function in living systems, and forms a part of the 1^st year curriculum for students of Medical, and other health professions.

The Department of Physiology in Christian Medical College, Ludhiana, is actively involved in the training of undergraduate and postgraduate students. The undergraduate courses are offered to students of medicine, dentistry, physiotherapy, and allied health sciences. A Postgraduate course leading to an MCI recognized MD Physiology degree are also offered.

Facilities provided in the department are modern laboratories and workspaces for undergraduate students. There is a research laboratory with facilities for post-graduate work. A well-stocked library with textbooks and journals of Physiology and Allied medical subjects is an important resource center.

The major areas of research in the department have been in the Sports, Cardiovascular, Pulmonary, Reproductive, Endocrine, Haematology, and Neurophysiology.

The Department of Physiology has also contributed to the field of Medical Education. All faculty members have completed the Basic Level MCI course in Medical Education and two have completed the CMCL-FAIMER Regional Institute Fellowship Program in Medical Education.

The department has hosted several Postgraduate Symposia / 1-day CMEs of the Ludhiana Branch of the Association of Physiologists and Pharmacologists of India.
