Our beloved teacher and an exceptionally gifted Ophthalmologist and meticulous surgeon, Dr Arindranath Chatterjee passed away on 26th April 2020 in Kolkata, aged 82 years. He had been ailing for some months, and was admitted in a Hospital for the last one month or so. I am yet to get these details.
Dr Arin Chatterjee was born on 3rd December, 1937. He joined CMC Ludhiana as a Demonstrator in 1962 and became a Lecturer on 1st June, 1967. He was promoted as Associate Professor on 1st May, 1970, and as Professor on 1st May, 1975. He was the Head of the Ophthalmology Department from 1970 to 1997, with only a 3-year break (1993-1996).He retired from CMC on 2nd December 1997, but was retained here as the Registrar till 4th December 1999.
Dr Chatterjee moved on to be the Chairman of the CBM-supported Vocational & Rehabilitation Training Centre in Ludhiana (2000 to 2009), and then moved to a rented accommodation in Rajguru Nagar in Ludhiana itself. Later, he shifted back to his hometown, Kolkata in mid-2015.
