Pediatric Surgeries

Pediatric Surgery services at Christian Medical College & Hospital Ludhiana was started formally by Professor M.C. Deodhar.

The unit became a full-fledged department in 2004.

In 2011 the department moved to a larger 21 bedded ward with an attached five bedded infant high dependency unit with post-operative ventilation facilities. Intensive care facilities are provided in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

In 2012 the department became the state of Punjab’s first and till now recognized paediatric surgery training centre for award of the MCh (Pediatric Surgery) degree.

In 2024 the department moved to a fully air-conditioned pediatric surgical ward with a neonatal/infant high dependency unit.

The aim of the department has always been to provide quality and modern surgical care to children.

The department through its well-equipped surgical suite offers a wide range of paediatric surgical services including laparoscopic and thoracoscopic surgery. We are one of the first centres in Punjab to provide neonatal and infant laparoscopy and thoracoscopy.

The department provides specialized care in neonatal surgery, general paediatric surgery, pediatric head and neck surgery, pediatric thoracic surgery, pediatric gastrointestinal surgery, pediatric hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, paediatric urology, paediatric anorectal and colorectal surgery, paediatric laparoscopic surgery and paediatric surgical oncology.

The department is one of the few centres in northern India to provide exclusive and specialised care of urinary incontinence in children.
