The Department provides comprehensive health services(Primary Health care services) to approximately 55,000 population in five field practice areas through home visiting health teams, each of which consists of one female health worker for every 5000 population and 1-2 medical interns and nursing students.

Academic and Research

The department imparts training to under-graduate and post-graduate medical and nursing students in Community medicine and Bio-statistics. Under the programme of Post-Graduate Diploma in Maternal and Child Health (PGDMCH) and Post-Graduate Diploma in Geriatric Medicine (PGDGM), the doctors of diverse backgrounds are trained in this department. Training of medical interns in Community Medicine is also the activity of the department. Field research activities are also conducted by the department. It is also collaborated with the department of Pathology for the ICMR Jai Vigyan S&T Mission Project “Community Control of Thalassemia Syndromes- the awareness, screening, genetic Counselling and Prevention”.
