The Department of
Microbiology has been developed and well established by the pioneer
Microbiologists like Dr. Betty C. Hobbs, Dr. Jagdish Rao and
Dr.Prabhakar. They worked for many years in C.M.C and Hospital.
At present the Microbiology department deals with
a) Laboratory diagnosis of various infectious diseases
b) Hospital Infection Control Program
We have the following divisions:- a) Media pouring and Sterilization Unit
b) Bacteriology Section
c) Mycology Section
d) Parasitology Section
e) Serology section
f) Virology Section
g) Tuberculosis Lab
h) Blood culture Lab
The Department takes care of the academic needs of MBBS, BDS,
B.Sc(Nursing),BPT, Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology and
Allied Health Sciences Courses. A Number of Research projects are
conducted and results are published in medical journals every year.
Diagnostic tests of the highest quality are performed for better
patient care. ICTC, EQAS and SRL centers for HIV Infection under
PSACS, Chandigarh also run in the Department..
