Clinical Haematology, Haemato-Oncology & Bone Marrow Transplant Unit deals with diseases related to blood, blood cancers and stem cell transplants.  Clinical conditions managed in this unit are (both adult and paediatrics):

  
     
 
1. Haematological Malignancies and Pre Malignancies:
 		  
 

a.

 Acute Luekemias – Acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) and Acute lymphoblastic leukemias (ALL).

b.

 Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS)
 

a.

 Chronic Leukaemias - Chronic Myeloid Leukemia, Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia
 

b.

 Multiple Myeloma
 

c.

 Hodgkins and Non-Hodgkins lymphomas
 
     
 
 
 
2. Non-Malignant haematological diseases:
 		  
 

a.

 Evaluation of anemia. (Low haemoglobin)

b.

 Aplastic anemia and other bone marrow failure syndromes

c.

 Thalassemia and other Red blood cell disorders

d.

 Platelet disorders – eg: ITP (Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura)

e.

 Bleeding diathesis – Factor deficiencies and platelet function disorders.
 

(eg: Haemophilia A & B, vonWillebrand’s disease)
 
     
 
 
 


3. Bone marrow transplantation:
Bone marrow transplantation is a process by which diseased stem cells in the bone marrow is destroyed and replaced by normal stem cells from a donor. It requires a unified effort from various departments and we have a team of specially trained nurses, physician assistants and doctors looking after the needs of the patients.
 

  
 

a.

 Allogeneic stem cell transplantation for leukaemia, aplastic anemia, Thalassaemia, genetic disorders of bone marrow origin.

b.

 Autologous stem cell transplantation for leukaemia, Multiple Myeloma, Lymphoma etc.
