College Ludhiana is the first institution in Northern India to establish
the first dedicated Clinical Haematology, Haemato-Oncology & Bone Marrow
Transplant Unit.
Currently the team at CMC, Ludhiana specializes in the management of
patients with all haematological disorders (related to red blood cells,
white blood cells, platelets) and haemato-Oncology {leukaemia (blood
cancer), lymphoma and multiple myeloma}
After having done the
first successful allogeneic stem cell transplant in the state of
Punjab, in a 33 yr old man with philadelphia positive ALL, in
October 2008, the team has done the first successful transplants in
northern India for Thalassaemia and Wiskott Aldrich Syndrome in a 1
½ yr old boy.
Recently, Baba Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai released a grant for
Rs. 24.5 Lakhs to set facilities for blood irradiation and
recognized CMC Ludhiana as a referral centre for transplants in
northern India, especially for thalassaemia and other diseases.
