Department of Dietetics
functions from 7 am to 10 pm. In-patient food services, diet counseling
are the main jobs of this department. Diet is inclusive of the room rent
for the private patients and it is optional for the general patients.
Dieticians are on duty from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm, seven days a week.
Staff and student food service was restarted. We serve all three meals
and tea service twice a day which was much appreciated because of the
convenience. Official caterings for the university exams, CMEs and
institutional guests are being done.
In-patients and out-patients diet consultations, daily ward rounds to
understand the patients’ problem and to provide better care, teaching,
to impart nutrition education, to organize nutrition education programs
to bring up the awareness among the pregnant ladies, lactating mothers,
rural school teachers, school children etc. are being done by the
dieticians. Diet exhibitions are being organized on various occasions,
such as, World Diabetes Day, World Kidney Day, World Stroke Day etc.
Dieticians are asked to write nutrition related articles in the leading
newspapers. One dietician is posted in Malerkotla clinic once a week to
give diet counselling. We also participate the Health camps being
organized by the institution. There is a very close relationship between
dieticians and doctors with regards to the nutrition care plan of the
patients. We are invited by the Punjab Agriculture University to
participate in the World Health Day every year.
Out-patients diet clinic runs from Monday to Saturday in general medical
OPD, Monday to Friday 11:00 to 2:00 pm and 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on
Saturdays and one dietician is posted there on a regular basis, who
covers all the specialty clinics. It is for the convenience of the
patients. Each patient is assessed and given diet counselling according
to their disease condition. Out-patients are also counselled in the
department from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm daily. Dieticians are also part of
the Juvenile Diabetic Club where the children and their parents are
guided for their diets and given nutrition education. |
