Paediatric surgery at Christian Medical College & Hospital was started formally by Professor M.C. Deodhar who received his training under Prof. William Kieswetter & Professor Mark Ravitch the fathers of modern day paediatric surgery. Professor Vinod P. Singh took over as head of paediatric surgery in 1993. Paediatric surgery which was functioning as a unit of general surgery was upgraded to a full fledged department in 2004. Presently Dr. William Bhatti heads a department with three paediatric surgeons, nursing and intensive care staff, physician assistants and surgical registrars.

The aim of the department has always been to provide quality surgical care to children. The department provides specialized care in neonatal surgery, general paediatric surgery, paediatric urology, paediatric laparoscopic surgery and paediatric surgical oncology.

Presently we take care of children up to 15 years of age. We have a fully equipped paediatric surgical suite and paediatric surgical intensive care unit with adequate facilities of ventilation and other supportive care for sick children.

We have a courteous and happy staff with play areas to keep the stay of our children comfortable.
One of our major advantages in providing surgical care to children is the support of the departments of paediatric orthopaedics and paediatric cardiac surgery. We have an advanced physiotherapy and physical medicine department for children who need rehabilitation. We also are fortunate to get important inputs from the departments of paediatric medicine and neonatology.
