Cmc Ludhiana

Dr. Harpreet Kapoor, MS
Professor & Head of Ophthalmology

Dr. Harpreet Kapoor, a graduate and postgraduate of Christian Medical College Ludhiana, continued as faculty in CMC after completing her training and is currently the Head of Ophthalmology and chairperson of Mobile Eye Services. In the year 2000 & 2001 she worked in the Cornea and Pediatric Ophthalmology unit at Flinders Medical Centre, Australia. Her areas of expertise include Phacoemulsification, Ocular surface disorders and Glaucoma. She also has a special interest in Retinopathy of Prematurity. She has several publications in peer reviewed journals to her credit. Dr. Harpreet is also a reviewer for national and international journals. Besides several presentations and chairing sessions in clinical ophthalmology meets, she has been invited for conducting workshops in medical education and project management in India and abroad. She is a fellow of FAIMER Institute, Philadelphia, USA and a faculty for CMCL Regional FAIMER Institute and MCI Nodal Centre.
Research Interests: Glaucoma; Ocular surface disorders; Retinopathy of prematurity

Dr. S. M. Bhatti
Professor

Dr. S. M. Bhatti is a graduate and postgraduate of CMC Ludhiana, one of the most prestigious institutions of North India. He is into the field of teaching since 1987. He has served as Professor and Head Department of Ophthalmology and currently is Professor of Ophthalmology and Principal CMC Ludhiana. He is a recognized examiner for various universities. He has formal training in small incision cataract surgery, phacoemulsification surgery with intraocular implantation and vitreo-retinal surgery. He has performed over 38,000 eye operations which include phacoemulsification, vitrectomies, squint, glaucoma and sac surgeries.

He is also Vice-President of Punjab Ophthalmological Society and Chairman, Scientific Committee Ludhiana Ophthalmological Society. He has to his credit various publications and paper/ poster presentations in various national/ international conferences. He has conducted various workshops, preconference instruction courses, guest lectures and live surgical sessions. He has chaired various sessions in national/ zonal conferences.

His major objectives are clinical practice, teaching, training and research in ophthalmology. His field of interest is retina especially diabetic retinopathy and age related macular degeneration.

 

Dr. Nitin Batra
Professor

Dr Nitin Batra graduated from B S Medical College, Calcutta University, West Bengal, and did his post graduation (MS, Ophthalmology) from our prestigious Institution. He has done a fellowship in Manual SICS from Venu Eye Institute, New Delhi. He is currently working as a Professor of Ophthalmology. His special interests are Community Ophthalmology, Anterior Segment, Research activities and teaching UG students.

He has publications in both national and international journals and has actively been involved with the National Blindness Surveys and SSU Project of the NPCB, Govt. of India, New Delhi, since 2001. He has been a member of the NPCB-WHO Expert Group on Trachoma in India.

 

Dr. Satish Thomas
Associate Professor

Dr Satish Thomas graduated from Kottayam Medical College, Kerala and did his post graduation (MD, Ophthalmology) from the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. He has done a fellowship in Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus from Sankara Nethralaya institute in Chennai. He is currently working as an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology. Special interests are strabismus and paediatric cataract. He has publications in both national and international journals and has been invited to give guest lectures on strabismus and paediatric ophthalmology.

 

Dr. Rupali Chopra
Assistant Professor

Dr. Rupali Chopra is working as an associate professor in the Department of Ophthalmology. She graduated from Government Medical College, Chandigarh and completed her post graduation from Christian Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana. She has received many awards for excellence in academics during her graduation. She has done a short term fellowship in Low vision services from Venu eye Institute, Delhi. Her special interests include Low vision Services, Glaucoma and Cornea. She has also participated in workshop on Cornea and Refractive surgery at RP Centre, AIIMS, Delhi. She has publications in various state and national journals and has presented papers and posters in national and international conferences.

 

 

Dr. Gurvinder Kaur
Assistant Professor

Dr. Gurvinder Kaur joined the department of Ophthalmology of Christian Medical College & Hospital, Ludhiana as Assistant Professor on 25thJanuary, 2008. She was the best graduate of her MBBS batch1994. She has to her credit 4 distinctions in her MBBS course. She passed her MS degree in Ophthalmology in 2003 from Govt. Medical College, Patiala.

She has 5 years of teaching experience in recognized medical college. She has undergone training course for Phacoemulsification with intraocular lens implantation at I-Care Eye Hospital and Research Centre, Noida. She has also attended ORBIS Flying Eye Hospital Program organised by ORBIS International in Jaipur, Rajasthan for training in Pediatric Ophthalmology esp. cataract, squint, oculoplasty, cornea and retina. She has to her credit 6 publications in various state, zonal and national journals. She has presented 24 papers/ posters in various state, zonal and national conferences. She has received Prem Chandra Award for the Best Paper presentation at 22nd North Zone Ophthalmlolgical Society at Ludhiana in September, 2008. She has worked as a sub-investigator in an international study regarding bacterial conjunctivitis conducted in Dayanand Medical College & Hospital, Ludhiana.

Her special fields of interest are Cataract, Strabismus, Oculoplasty and Retina.
