The department of Ophthalmology since its inception in the mid forties, has stood for excellence in eye care for more than 50 years and now incorporates several ophthalmic subspecialty services, providing quality eye care to the community based on global best practice standards. The department is also recognized for its training programs, which are regularly evaluated and upgraded based on international advancements in medical education and research. The faculty strives to ensure that the Ophthalmologists we train are professionally competent, socially relevant and spiritually alive.
 

Taking its compassionate services to the doorstep of rural India, the ‘Mobile Eye Services’ of CMC&H has reached out to millions of underserved people residing in remote and rural areas of Northern India, vaulting geographical and financial barriers through its effective strategies. In our efforts to provide better care to the underserved, a systematic self sustainable community outreach model has been developed.

To provide standardized international level eye care services to all sects of the society, infrastructure and human resource development have been our key focus areas – state of the art equipment has been procured over the last few years including Automated Perimeter, Corneal Topographer, Nd:YAG LASER, Retinal LASER, Synaptophore, Auto-refractometer, current generation Phacoemulsification system, operating microscopes and slit lamps. For added patient comfort, the Ophthalmology out patient clinic was renovated and a child friendly pediatric Eye clinic was inaugurated in September 2009. Construction of a special wing for outreach patients is underway which will be operational very soon. The department continues to collaborate with International NGOs like CBM and ORBIS International and is making constant efforts to liaise with philanthropic and other like-minded organizations to maximize its contribution to Vision 2020.
