Periodontology has
made tremendous progress in the recent years. The analysis of
periodontal tissues mechanisms and causes of their involvement in
various pathologic process has gone beyond histology and physiology into
cellular and molecular research. Today, reconstruction of lost
structures, replacement of teeth by implants and achievement of esthetic
results are integral part of clinical periodontology.
The high incidence of periodontal problems and the close relationship
between periodontal and restorative dental therapies make this specialty
an inevitable one. In our department of Periodontics, we believe in
timely intervention to arrest the progress of all periodontal diseases,
in addition to patient education and motivation. We mainly stress upon the maintenance of general
oral health, periodontal health and last but not the least oral hygiene.
Evaluation of systemic health, examination of periodontium, radiographic
analysis followed by comprehensive treatment plan, patient education and
motivation to maintain oral hygiene and regular follow up are inevitable
steps of periodontal treatment, that we follow here.
The procedures that are performed in the Department of periodontics are

patient evaluation and management is imparted to the students
of Third Year BDS. Instrumentation skills are also developed using
study models. Fourth Year students are given guidance for in depth
study of the subject along with treatment and management of patients
with periodontal diseases including those with systemic involvement
by our very experienced and respected senior faculty of the
department.
The well trained group of periodontists in our college who
