Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) has organized ‘’Rehab Mela 2016’’ on International day of Persons with disability (3rd December) in CMC hospital Ludhiana under the guidance of director Dr. Abraham G. Thomas. The observance of the Day aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities. We had 250 peoples gathering in CMC hospital including 100 rehabilitated disabled patients. These patients had free checkup and blood tests by rehab team.
Dr. Santhosh Mathangi (Associate professor and HOD – PMR) emphasized to make this world Disabled friendly so everybody can live in this world happily. He emphasized that public places like Railway station, bus stand, buses, public toilets, banks and ATM counters etc, should be disabled friendly. In India approximately 10-15 % of population (approximately 100 millions) are disabled.
Government of India has taken a positive initiative to change word disability to Divyang – qualifying the ‘limb’ with divinity, instead of disease.
