LymphomaLymphoma survivors meet at CMC Ludhiana

Lymphoma is a cancer of the lymphatic system and can develop in the lymph nodes, spleen, bone marrow, blood or other organs. It is broadly of two types- Hodgkin and Non-Hodgkin.
On September 12th the Christian Medical College & hospital is holding an awareness programme in connection with the World Lymphoma Awareness Day.
Survivors of lymphoma are coming together in common platform to spread the word that lymphoma is a cancer which can be cured.
As per the 2014 global patient survey 62% of patients are misdiagnosed. Education and promoting awareness is the key to early detection, accurate diagnosis and accurate treatment.
Symptoms of lymphoma can be misdiagnosed and to be infections like tuberculosis or any other disease. The most common symptom is a painless swelling in a lymph node. It’s important that individuals recognize the signs and symptoms of lymphoma because it can save a life. Biopsy of the node is important which is often not undertaken.
With modern treatment including newer drugs and stem cell transplant, the chances of curing this cancer has improved significantly. However making an early diagnosis is important to both treatment and outcome.
For the year 2015 the theme chosen by the lymphoma coalition is “Lymphoma is a cancer that can’t be ignored”. Department of clinical haematology and stem cell transplantation is organizing a “Lymphoma Survivor Meet” on the 12 th of September 2015 to spread awareness of this curable cancer in service of the people of Punjab. The motto of the meeting is
“Early Detection; Accurate Diagnosis & Appropriate Treatment”.
